  5. 13 intrepid riders set out from Swansea on Sunday 4th July on the British Heart Foundation Gower Ride; 9 from Newport Olympic and 4 representing Newport Velo and all returned safely in just over 2 hours covering 29 miles around the beautiful Gower peninsula under threatening skies that sprinkled a little rain but not enough to put off the gang.

The Newport Velo entires were Rees Britton and Sam, Emily and James Tillett; all under 12 with the adults managing to keep up with them mostly! This offered the kids a fantastic opportunity to experience a "mini Sportif" with riders of varying ability and equipment all around them in the mass start and on the open roads with good signage and marshalling. Although definitely not a race the pace was challenging with a couple of steep hills to interest the climbers.

A great event worth supporting next year and maybe we can have an even larger attendance. If each entry raises the minimum £50 sponsorship then a good contribution to fighting heart disease as well as a good day out.

  13. Hi,

New series of coaching sessions being run by Welsh Cycling. The aim of the sessions is to improve the standard of young Welsh Cross Country mountain bikers with the focus on technical skills practice and racing efforts. The sessions are run by Welsh Cycling’s Performance Development Coach, Scott Bugden who has close links with British Cycling’s Regional and National Talent programmes and is looking to feed Welsh riders into the Talent Team structure.

The sessions are open to any riders aged from 12-16. Even if you feel that you are a road and track rider, taking part in these sessions can’t do you any harm-for those riders aspiring to selection for British Cycling’s Talent Team, you will be expected to be able to ride all disciplines and the bike handling skills that you will learn on an MTB can only help you in other disciplines.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Scott using the details below.
